2nd Lt Lawrence A. Eckard was graduated from Lewistown High School in 1942 and employed at the Beaver Brothers Bakery before entering the Army May 12, 1943. He went overseas in November, 1944 and has been based in France where he was flying as bombardier in an A-26 Invader. His mother died, after a short illness, on the same day the telegram arrived announcing that Lt Eckard had been missing in action over Germany.

Airplane was seen on fire. According to the Pilot John Chalmers the other 2 crewmembers also bailed out. The Pilot and Gunner were taken POW.
