Pvt Richard J. Hughes graduated from St. Peter's High School and was employed by the Richardson Company in his hometown.He enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 18 January 1944 and trained at Camp Blanding, Florida and Fort Benning, Georgia and went overseas September 1944.
At the time of his death his brother James was stationed in the Marianas.
