Edward graduated from the Wabeno High school and Central State Teachers College. He taught school for a time at Suring and for two years at Park Falls. He was married on 23 December 1941.Edward enlisted in June 1941 and was stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana, where he was promoted to first sergeant. In May 1942 he was sent to the officers candidate school at Fort Knox, Kentucky and received his commission on 22 August 1942. Just before going overseas last February he was promoted to captain. He had been in active combat since 1 August 1944.
