William Clancy was an automobile mechanic.

He enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 23 May 1942 and first worked in the motor pool on military vehicles. Leading up to the Battle of the Bulge, he was pulled from the motor pool and assigned to the infantry.

Pfc Clancy was killed by shell fragments to the head.

He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Henri-Chapelle on 25 October 1944. He was given his final resting place on 24 August 1948.
