S/Sgt Joseph J. Ferrari enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 12 March 1942.He received training at Camp Polk, La., Fort Benning, Ga., and was on maneuvers in California before going overseas. He was missing in action since October 3, the day before his 34th birthday anniversary. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action on October 2, 1944. He attended Plains Memorial High School.
He was originally buried in an isolated grave near St Anthonis, Holland.
