Pfc Carl M. Kramer was born in Winsen, Germany and emigrated to the United States on 13 May 1927, arriving in New York City, New York on the vessel SS Columbus, under the name of Karl Kramer. He married Vernie Bates in 1933 at Bentonville, Arkansas, the place where their daughter was born two years later. Pfc Kramer became a U.S. citizen in 1937.
