Lt Gus Gerard attended law school at the University of Mississippi in 1941. He left the university in his senior to join the army in 1942.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy.

At the request of his family, he was buried next to his brother, Frank T. Gerard Jr..

Both brothers are remembered at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Grenada, Grenada County, Mississippi.
