Pfc Rene R. Pelletier enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 21 September 1942.

He was already part of his unit when it landed in North Africa.

He was wounded in action at Anzio, Italy, again in Italy in January 1944 and a third time during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. For these wounds he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal three times.
