Cpl Fred R. Gruneberg enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 19 May 1942.

He was a veteran of the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio and the Netherlands.

He was seriously wounded on 20 December 1944 in the vicinity of Rahier, Belgium and died of his wounds on 2 January 1945 in a hospital in Belgium.
