1st Lt James F. Drennan Jr. graduated from Decatur High School and was a driver before he joined the National Guard in Springfield, Illinois on 25 November 1940. He was sent overseas in February 1944.

He died of wounds, sustained in action on 11 January 1945 in Belgium.
