Statement from Cpl Hugh C. Campbell:
"I was flying as armorer gunner, position No. 2, lead flight on a mission to bomb Ahrweiler, RR viaduct, Germany, 23 December 1944. Just after the second bomb run fighters attacked our flight. I saw Lt Abraham’s aircraft dropping back with landing gear down and both engines smoking. The aircraft went down slowly and appeared to be under control. The fighters did not attack it further and I did not see anyone bail out. This action occurred to the left of my position and viewed only by a glance as I was firing at the enemy aircraft."

T/Sgt Lemon is remembered at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Sandusky County, Ohio.
