More information
1st Lt Edwin G. Goss joined the Regular Army in Springfield, Massachusetts on 28 January 1943.Statement from Capt Chester L. Van Etten:
"At approximately 1445 hrs I found an enemy truck along the highway at Q-4742 and called to Red 2, 3 & 4 to strafe it as my guns were burned out and couldn’t do any damage. When Lt E. G. Goss, Red 4, made his pass, I was 180 degrees and making a left-hand circuit when I saw Lt Goss hit the trees in front of the truck. No pieces came off the aircraft, and it seemed to be under control. When the aircraft was about 75 ft. from the deck, I was going to call Lt Goss and ask him if everything was under control. Just then, the aircraft started a port aileron roll and hit the deck inverted, exploding in a mass of fire. I did not see Lt Goss get out."
