Pvt Arthur C. Beeman graduated from Healdsburg High School and was a policeman before he enlisted in San Francisco, California on 6 December 1943. He was sent overseas in July 1944.

On 31 July 1944, he suffered a leg wound from shrapnel. Pvt Beeman and his buddy, although both wounded, managed to fire six bazooka shells into the tank that had fired upon them. He was sent to England, where he spent a month recovering in a hospital. By late September, he had rejoined his unit in France.
