Pvt Roy E. McDowell worked on a farm before he enlisted at Fort Thomas Newport, Kentucky on 9 March 1944.
He was reported wounded on 9 October 1944 when a bridge was bombed when he was on his way to the front line. He died in a hospital from a skull fracture with brain damage on 10 October 1944.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
