More information

Harry W. Stenborn graduated from Longmont High School in Colorado in 1933. He attended Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska for two years and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1941.
He volunteered for the Army of the United States on 27 February 1942 and was sent overseas in March 1943.

During the low level approach to the target, the airplane was hit several times by concentrated small-arms and anti-aircraft fire from all sides. At bombs away Lt Stenborn's chest was torn open by an 88-mm shell.
S/Sgt Charles P. Decrevel, a surviving crew member stated af the war that he saw Lt Stenborn a few seconds before the crash on his knees on the bomb-bay catwalk attempting to crawl through the bulkhead door. He was very badly wounded in the chest. Lt Stenborn must have died in the crash. He was helplessly wounded and was caught in the bomb-bay and the wreckage."

Five crew members were killed, four men, all wounded, survived and were taken prisoner.
