More information

1st Lt William L. Y. Goo lived in Honolulu at St. Mary's home until he was 15 and in 1935 went to Washington with Rev. Bailey, as his ward. He graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1937 and attended the University of Washington for three years.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Seattle, Washington, on 14 December 1942 and graduated from Hondo Field, Texas in 1944.

The aircraft was hit by flak just after the target and went into a tight spin. Two parachutes were seen at first and then eight more. The pilot apparently was able to pull it out of the spin once or twice and then it went into a dive again. The plane was seen to blow up upon crashing in the target area.

Six crew members survived and were taken prisoner. Five men were killed.

Lt Goo was initially buried at the cemetery of Buxtehude. After the war, his remains were never found.
