Sgt James S. Mc Kinney attended high school for two years.He enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 28 July 1943.
He was severely wounded in action on 16 July 1944 and transferred to the 67th Evacuation Hospital on the same date. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal the first time for this wound. After recovering re rejoined his company on 27 August 1944. On 13 December 1944 he was promoted to Sergeant.
