2nd Lt Edward Henig graduated from college and was an engineer.He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Fort Hayes, Ohio on 22 May 1942.
The airplane received a direct hit from enemy anti-aircraft fire in the forward part where the wings join to the fuselage. The nose was blown off. The aircraft went down in flames and disintegrated into small pieces.
Two crew members were taken prisoner, and eight men were killed. They were initially buried at the cemetery of Marquise, France.
