Erwin G. Huggett's mother died of diphtheria, two weeks after his birth.He worked in an aircraft factory.
He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Kalamazoo, Michigan on 14 October 1942. He was sent overseas in October 1943.
According to a newspaper article, his wife expected the arrival of a child in June 1944.
The mission took place on 11 January 1944. The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters over the target and crashed 1 km northwest of Weissenborn-Lüderode.
Sgt Erwin G. Huggett bailed out but died in a hospital in Nordhausen on 12 January 1944 after the amputation of his right arm. He was initially buried on the POW section of the New Cemetery of the town.
Also another crew member was killed. The rest of the crew was taken prisoner.
