S/Sgt Delbert J. Hildreth enlisted at Camp Dodge Herold, Iowa on 13 July 1943. He served nine months in an anti-aircraft battalion and then was transferred to the infantry. He went overseas in October 1944.He worked as a skilled mechanic at the Des Moines Ordnance plant before he enlisted.
Sgt Hildreth was previously wounded on 12 December 1944, in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart the first time at that time.
