Statement by 1st Lt David E. Olsson, Asst Operations Officer:
“B-17F 42-5882, piloted by 2nd Lt Francis J. Regan, was last seen north of Helgoland. Our formation was attacked by numerous fighters, during which time he was cut off from the formation. No one saw him go down or chutes leaving the ship, but it is assumed by other combat crewmen that he headed toward the North Sea.”

All 10 crew members were killed.
