Vernon Archibald graduated from Carlin High School and was a fireman at the Southern Pacific Railroad Company.He enlisted in February 1942 and graduated from bombardier school in St. Angelo in June 1943
B-17F 42-30226 was last seen while leaving formation at 50 28N 05 34E at 1030 hours. The ship had one engine feathered and was under control. There were no fighters in the immediate area when seen returning to base. No report of chutes or other observations was made.
