Walter M. Smith graduated from South Cache High School in 1942 and attended Utah State Agriculture College in Logan, Utah for two quarters.Walter Smith enlisted on 1 March 1943 at Fort Douglas, Salt Lake City. He trained in Texas and Camp Fort Meade, Maryland. He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 June 1943 and was accepted for Army Specialized training on 19 February 1944. He was transferred to Air Corps. Walter Smith was sent overseas in January 1945.
