Pvt Robert I. Donaldson attended high school for two years and worked in an aircraft manufacturing factory.He joined the Regular Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky on 4 July 1940. He served with the coast artillery in the Panama Canal Zone for three and a half years. He then spent six months in the States before being sent overseas where he joined his unit on 21 December 1944.
