S/Sgt John Winter enlisted on 17 December 1942 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

His aircraft was hit by flak and 20mm fire from fighters, broke in two, and crashed at Gyhum, 6 miles northwest of Rotenburg, near Hannover, Germany.

His body was found in the wreckage.
