2nd Lt Charles W. Clark enlisted in the Air Corps in December of 1941 and was inducted in February 1942. In January of 1944 Charles flew a B-17 across the Atlantic and went immediately into action.

On March 23rd he was reported missing in action while on his 11th mission over Brunswick, Germany. On September 1st, 1944 he was officially declared dead. Lt. Clark was first in his Squadron to complete the first five successful missions and was reported in March 27th issue of Life magazine as being first over Berlin.

The formation was attacked by between thirty and forty fighters including ME 109s and FW 109s. Aircraft 42-39933 blew up into a shoot of flame.
