Pfc Weil was severely wounded in action on 5 August 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time. After recovering at the 102nd Evacuation Hospital he returned to his unit.He is remembered at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ava, Jackson County, Illinois.
