2nd Lt Wesley V. Helvey graduated from Fairbury High School and attended Kearney State Teachers College.

He enlisted in Ogden, Utah in February 1941.

He died as a result of parachute failure. The airplane he was in was attacked by enemy fighters after it was hit by flak.
