2nd Lt Wesley V. Helvey graduated from Fairbury High School and attended Kearney State Teachers College.He enlisted in Ogden, Utah in February 1941.
The airplane was attacked by enemy fighters after it was hit by flak.
Lt Helvey's parachute failed to open.
