Sgt John E. Till attended high school for four years and was a chainman.He enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama on 2 March 1943.
Because the formation was flying very low Flak from vessels of the Kriegsmarine in the harbor of Middelharnis had no problem hitting the airplane.
This airplane was hit, causing three engines to fall out and fire starting in the catwalk and the nose section.
Seven crew members were killed and three were taken prisoner.
Five men were initially buried as inknowns at the cemetery of Ouddorp.
