2nd Lt. Raymond S. Ankeny enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 14 November 1942.When he was on his 21st mission his plane was shot-down over Leipzig, Germany. He bailed out from plane, but his parachute was on fire. He was killed when he hit the ground.
