Joseph C. Mc Gregor immigrated in 1930 and was a teller for the New York Bank and Trust Company. He also was a professional soccer player with the New York and New Jersey soccer teams.A member of the pathfinderss group, Lt Mc Gregor landed in France about midnight on 5 June 1944, an hour and a half before the main body of the American parachute troops. For six days he and a few companions were in German territory, depending on their own resources and destroying military installations behind the enemy lines.
He was awarded the Bronze Star for gallantry in attacking and overcoming strongly German posts in a village south of Carentan, where he was the sole survivor of his group.
1st Lt Joseph C. Mc Gregor was killed during a German mortar attack.
He is remembered at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.
