More information

2nd Lt Roscoe Adams graduated from West High School and worked at the garage operated by his father.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Cleveland, Ohio on 31 March 1942.
Statement of 1st Lt W. B. Crutchfield, who flew in the same mission: "Our squadron had met bombers and was escorting some home. Our flight (Yellow) saw a straggling B-17 at 10,000 feet in the vicinity of 50 degrees 85 minutes North. 50 degrees 10 minutes East. We were at 15,000 feet making a circle over the bomber. Two FW 190's suddenly appeared on the bomber's tail. We chased them away, then came up again. As we got up and were in a luftberry, 6 FW 190's came at us from out of the sun. We fought them for five minutes then headed home, by going to in the clouds at 5,000 feet. I saw Lt. Adams flying into the clouds on Lt. Boehle's right, but didn't see him since. I heard Lt. Adams on the radio saying he was going home on the deck."

According to Germans records, the airplane was hit by flak, went into a spin and Lt Adams bailed out but didn't survive.
