2nd Lt Vernon A. Post graduated from Jackson High School in 1939 and was employed at Frost Gear and Forge Company. He joined the Regular Army in Jackson, Michigan, on 9 October 1942.
1st Lt Milton N. Mannick:
"I was flying red four in Firebrick Squadron on the 8th of February 1945. This was a dive-bombing to knock out a bridge west of Cologne, Germany. Lt. Post was flying Firebrick Red two. We were just about 15 minutes from our field, flying in formation through the clouds. I saw Lt Post fall back a short ways, and he suddenly rolled over and went down through the clouds. Our altitude was approximately 2,000 feet. I did not see him hit the ground nor hear him call on the radio. This incident occurred about 1015 hours."
