Pvt William Lyons Jr. was a construction machinery operator before he enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 13 March 1944.According to a newspaper article Pvt Lyons ended the paratrooper training succesfully in October 1944. If this information is correct, the exact reason why he served in a common infantry unit is not known.
