1st Lt Tom Hodges graduated from Swampscott High School and was employed at Lehrburger Asher, Inc, furriers of Boston.

He enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 27 November 1942.
He died from injuries received after stepping on a mine.

Lt Hodges received the Bronze Medal "for heroic achievements" while serving as platoon leader. "Repeatedly exposing himself to heavy enemy fire to inspire and encourage his men by his personal bravery. Lt Hodges sustained mortal wounds while leading his men through a strongly defended mine field."

He is remembered at the Swampscott Cemetery in Swampscott, Essex County, Massachusetts.
