More information

Pvt Charles W. Groth enlisted in Chicago, Illinois on 23 June 1942.

Prior to entering the service he had been employed on the George Boal farm on Route 47 just north of Woodstock for eleven years. Groth came to Woodstock from Chicago when he was just a youngster. He started to work on the Boal farm and continued to make his home there until called to service. For a number of years the Boals sponsored barn dances at their farm and it was during those years that Groth became well acquinted with folks from around the community. Pvt Groth had been overseas about three months. He did not linger long in England before being sent into active duty in France. Pvt Groth had three brothers in the army. His sister, Mrs. Joseph Jahnke lived in Chicago and his parents had died in 1930-1931.

He was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Limey, France.
