More information

2nd Lt John E. Bolle was a mechanic before he joined the Regular Army in Boston, Massachusetts, on 12 December 1942.

Statement from 1st Lt John Bazan:
"On the 12th day of April, while on our mission, our flight started its bomb run. I was yellow three and when my turn came I checked for my wing man, Lt. Bolle, rolled over and started down. We made our run through intense, heavy and light flak, and as I pulled out I looked back for my wingman just in time to see a large explosion and fire on the ground, but no sight of Lt Bolle. I immediately tried to contact him, but to no avail. In my opinion, the explosion was Lt Bolle’s ship."
