More information
Sgt Adolphus J. Von Dette attended high school for 4 years and was a driver before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Rosecrans, California on 27 January 1941.S/Sgt Anthony J. Vola:
“Near the target area we were attacked by enemy fighters. While on the bomb run I saw ship #41-29338 attacked and a few seconds later he went into a dive with the #2 engine on fire. As the aircraft went down out of sight I saw one person bail out. Soon after this, I saw the ship going down. It was apparently hit since it was leaving a smoke trail. As the ship went out of sight I failed to see any parachutes. The location as noted by the Navigator was 48.08N 14.00E.”
Sgt Nicholas J. Sciarrotta:
"There seemed to be several hits in the ball turret by 20mm shells."
