More information
T/Sgt Huron R. Voliva was a weigher before he enlisted in Fort Bragg, North Carolina on 29 July 1942.S/Sgt Anthony J. Vola:
“Near the target area we were attacked by enemy fighters. While on the bomb run I saw ship #41-29338 attacked and a few seconds later he went into a dive with the #2 engine on fire. As the aircraft went down out of sight I saw one person bail out. Soon after this, I saw the ship going down. It was apparently hit since it was leaving a smoke trail. As the ship went out of sight I failed to see any parachutes. The location as noted by the Navigator was 48.08N 14.00E.”
Sgt Nicholas J. Sciarrotta:
"T/Sgt Voliva was hit by a 20mm shell, which exploded in his chest.
