S/Sgt Alfred R. Peterson attended high school for 4 years and was a driver before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the U.S. Army in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on 9 December 1942.

Richard J. Haney:

"On April 2, 1944, At approximately 1130 our right wing man Lt. Glyde P. Brunson and his crew in ship Number 271, was seen to make a slow descending turn to the tight with left wing, engine and left rudder on fire. Two men were seen bailing out and one chute opened. I then saw the ship blow up".

S/Sgt Jack E. Dohlin:

"All members bailed out except Pilot, Co-Pilot and Nose Gunner".
