A graduate of St. Berchman's School, Marion, La., and from St. Thomas Military Academy, St. Paul, Minn., F/O George M. Bray was in his junior year at Creighton University when he enlisted in the Air Forces in February, 1943. He has been overseas since August, 1944. He died in a mission over Blechhammer, Germany. The mission was a difficult one and the unit received a citation from General Arnold. Four of the crew were killed, one taken prisoner and five listed missing.

Statement from Robert J. Kermes, 1st Lt, Air Corps, Navigator:
"On 13 October 1944 at approximately 1133 hours, aircraft #605 received a direct flak burst amidship, after it had released the bomb load on the target at Blechhammer-South Oil Refinery and to go down in the distrinct parts at 5018N-1815E. No explosion or fire was noted. Three to five parachutes were reported as coming from the plane, primarily from the forward portion."
