2nd Lt Robert E. Bigelow college before he joined the Regular Army at Fort Meade, South Dakota on 10 July 1942.

Richard J. Haney:

On April 2, 1944, At approximately 1130 our right wing man Lt. Glyde P. Brunson and his crew in ship Number 271, was seen to make a slow descending turn to the tight with left wing, engine and left rudder on fire. Two men were seen bailing out and one chute opened. I then saw the ship blow up.

S/Sgt Jack E. Dohlin:

All members bailed out except Pilot, Co-Pilot and Nose Gunner.

2nd Lt Robert E. Bigelow was taken prisoner of war and died of his injuries in a hospital in Voitsberg, Austria.
