2nd Lt Robert W. Meng college before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Detroit, Michigan on 26 August 1942.

1st Lt John A. Ullstrom:
"On the mission of 26 July 1944, the target was Zwölfaxing A/O, Austria. My ship was flying position #6, lead box, first attack unit. Plue A, ship #42-52417, piloted by 2nd Lt Robert W. Meng, was flying position #5, lead box, first attack unit. Direct over the target, Lt Meng’s ship received a direct hit and the ship disintegrated. No chutes were visible after The ship disintegrated. No fighters were visible at the time. The flak was very accurate and intense."
