More information
2nd Lt Adrian P. Karpinsky attended high school for 4 years before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 7 December 1942.Flt/O Robert L. Wilcox:
“Ship #41-29573, Blue G, piloted by Lt Robert J. Jones, was flying position #3, lead box, first attack unit. Directly over the target, G was hit by flak and #2 engine caught on fire. The ship dove to our left and then #2 engine exploded. Part of the wing broke off after #2 engine exploded. To avoid being hit by parts of the wing, we turned to the left. I did not see any chutes open. No fighters were visible at the time. Flak over target was intense and accurate.”
T/Sgt Ernest E. Gallegos:
“I suppose that Lt Karpinsky stopped to open the turret door for the nose gunner and caught the flat spin of the plane which either knocked him out or threw him through the opening which bomb box had already used.”
