Flight Commander John W. Lee:On mission #106, 26 June 1944, 1st Lt J. Weller Smith flying lead ship, High box, second attack unit, feathered #3 engine over target of Florisdorf, Austria. Lt Smith Stayed in the near vicinity of the formation until about sixty miles from the target on a course of 172. At that time, he tried to unfeather and start #3 engine. He fell back slowly during this procedure and the tail gunner reported that his ship was disintegrating, and six chutes were visible.
