More information
1st Lt Charles R. Campbell attended before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Provo, Utah on 29 October 1942.Sgt James R. Hite:
I, James R. Hite was the tailgunner of a B-24 liberator aircraft which flew in the fourth position of the formation on 11 December 1944, with B-24 liberator aircraft number 44-10629, piloted by 1st Lt Charles R. Campbell. After dropping our bombs, we continued to follow Lt Campbell's ship. When he turned to the right, we followed since he had made no signs whatsoever of aborting. Later I saw one chute emerge from his ship. After this aircraft was lost from my view I noticed two additional chutes below us, but I can't be sure they were from the subject aircraft.
2nd Lt David Davis:
I was last crew member to see him alive, he was still in the pilot's seat when I bailed out. He received a neck injury. Blood gushed from nose and mouth.
