Sgt Carl J. Zobel Jr. graduated from South High School and was a Star Journal Carrier.He joined the Regular Army in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on 18 September 1942 and was sent overseas in June 1944.
Statement from 1st Lt M. S. Worth:
"42-95873 in which he was flying crashed on take-off for combat mission. The airplane took off under bad weather conditions, a ground haze and visibility of less than 1000 yards. Shortly after take-off the airplane hit a combine in a field, then crashed into high tension wires and burned."
Sgt Zobel was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Solers, France.
