More information

2nd Lt Edwards graduated from Plant High School in Tampa and followed the ROTC course.

He entered the service on 1 November 1942. He received his fighter pilot's wings and commission as second lieutenant after graduation from advanced flight school in Aloe, Texas.

The MACR contains an eyewitness report of a member of his wing, 2nd Lt Lewis R. Brown. He stated that the wing did a 360° turn to the left around Turnhout, Belgium. Lt Edwards called in and asked him which heading. When Lt Brown replied, he said that he was hit and asked what heading he should take to get out. Lt Brown told him to take a 360° and head west. He then circled on the course but couldn't find Lt Edwards. He thought he was with another wing member, Lt Van Noy, but he said he wasn't with him.

2nd Lt Edwards was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foss, Belgium, on 19 September 1944. When this cemetery was disbanded, his remains were transferred to Henri-Chapelle, where they were first buried in a temporary grave. He was again disinterred on 13 August 1948 and given his final resting place on 29 April 1949.
