2nd Lt Jacob Silverstein graduated from Redondo Union High School and attended Compton Junior College and the University of California.

He joined the Air Corps of the Army of the United States on 13 March 1942 in Los Angeles, California.

The airplane was last seen as it entered the bombing run over Oschersleben. No one reported having seen it go down, nor was enemy fighter opposition encountered after this time.

Six crew members were taken prisoner, four men were killed.
