S/Sgt John A. Raynor Jr. attended high school for 4 years.

He enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 13 August 1943.

He was promoted from private first class to staff sergeant on 19 July 1944.

A 25 man patrol from G Company was sent north from Osweiler to knock out an enemy artillery observation post, known to be located South of enemy occupied Steinheim. The observation post was protected by wire and after the patrol got inside the wire, mines and charges of dynamite were set off and the patrol withdrew, suffering 1 missing and 11 wounded, 3 of which were evacuated.

S/Sgt John A. Raynor Jr. was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Luxembourg.
